Happy Halloween: Number Two of Two
As promised, above is the book cover for the anthology "Witch Way to the Mall" edited by Esther Friesner. I like painting silly and grotesque stuff. The editor wanted a sexy soccer mom type witch though (a WMILF?). Can you find the Wizard of Oz allusion? I did it entirely subconsciously. (Hint: a means of propulsion, although not usually a desired one.)
Below is one of my initial thumbnail ideas and three bonus, more traditional, witches I painted for "Wyrd Sisters" by Terry Pratchett many years ago.
Now to go and eat the candy I bought for the Trick-or-Treaters. They're going to be egg-throwing angry with me.

happy halloween!
The Wizard of Oz allusion beyond the tornado? the green skinned witch? or what at first glance of this smallish version of illustration looks to have a flying monkey in the sky and Toto helping out the GPS?
OMG that's fantastic!
Really beautiful!
Hope the day was good!
Gorgeous!
Thanks, I'm still barely keeping up on things but I wanted to say that Tara is right. Only I forgot that the most famous green-skinned witch is from The Wizard of Oz, even inspiring a separate book and musical of her own (Wicked). The truth is I thought the tornado helped the composition and I wanted to paint someone green, just tired of the same 'ol, same 'ol orangey/pinkish types.
Awesome! My wife and I have referred to "Home Despot" for years, so the logo on the shopping bag (a Hansel and Gretel allusion?) had me on the floor.
Are you doing the cover for "Strip Mauled"?
