Chinese Gnemo
Wednesday I received several copies of Fantasy Art Magazine from Beijing, China that I did an interview for. They did an excellent job of printing my Gnemo paintings. I was pleasantly surprised to see a gatefold (fold out) for two paintings. Here are three pages from the magazine. You can, of course, see my Gnemo art on Gnemo's Art and Story but for the sake of novelty here they are with Chinese pictographs.
If you can read some of this feel free to tell me what it says. You're also welcome to make up something as long as it's clever. That's my real face there not the fake one I use for my blog. I like the way they used one of my airships as a bullet points.
I did a painting demo this week and on Friday I gave a talk and slideshow to a few hundred 4th and 5th graders -- oh, what a day that was. It exhausted me. I'm still tired. It's also possible that they infected me with their middle school germs. Cooties? More about this in my next installment.

I think Ol'Pensol was commenting on Gnemo's Sketchbook. Is it fun to be a celebrity in places where you can't understand what they're saying about you? What if they're saying don't do drugs cause your paintings will look like this? Decadent American artist is the enemy of the People's Republic of China. What if its actually a wanted poster? I myself think your a geenyus, but you never know about those pesky foreigners, look what happened to that Gere guy in India.

I like to think that there are million people in China seeing my Gnemo art and wondering what the story behind it is. A million is, of course, only .000714 percent of the Chinese population but sometimes my math is off. I’ve got my sights on India too with their 300 million middle class population and a billion people total.
I like getting books with my covers when the titles are in Russian, French, German or other languages. It's nice to know that art can communicate no matter the language.
I have Chinese relatives who should be able to interpret this for me. I'm sure it's basically right but the subtle language differences can be fun to find.
I've had such a hard day today. It was exhausting. I won't bore you. It's the stuff we all go through from time to time.
Oh, yes, Cind, I'm not the blond brute hayseed I use as my blog image. I'm a small gray be-speckled man. Think of me as the quaint old guy behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. Oh, that Pensol, he definitely cracks me up too.

Hey Tom! Congrats with your Chinese work. I agree with Wray about the burgeoning (hope burgeoning means what I think it does) Chinese art scene. My wife is from Beijing and I had the priviledge of visiting about a year ago. I'm a big fan of Chinese propaganda posters - nothing like children brandishing (hope brandishing means...) machine guns for Mao. I understand that the Chinese artists of that era were trained in Russia - oh those communists can paint! Anyway your work is superlative (hope......) and the Gnemo work is a tribute.. to the genre. I also liked looking at it! Inspired sir..
